PPS DESIGN POLICE COMMAND AND LOGISTICS
SHELTER TO HOME OFFICE SPECIFICATION
For a long time leading suppliers of decontamination technologies and other emergency systems to the fire and ambulance services, hospital trusts and the NHS , Professional Protection Systems equipment is starting to find favour with the police services. The most important order so far has been for a metal frame command and logistics shelter. The order for this specially designed unit was placed with PPS by the Home Office Scientific Development Branch.
The six quad structure (a quad being one metal section), that can be set up in less than five minutes, by two people, is also designed to offer a flexible interior for different uses.
This new PPS command and logistics shelter contains a number of novel features, mainly aimed at providing an unusual level of security and stability for a temporary structure of this kind. For instance a Velcro strip all around the bottom of the unit keeps it totally sealed and attached to a ground sheet, some 20% larger than the structure’s footprint. This allows for vehicles to be parked on the ground sheet on either side of the unit, thus giving it perfect stability, even in the most difficult hostile conditions.
According to PPS Managing Director Mark Whitcher the new unit was in operation at an incident recently with success. “Great interest has been shown by the technical support units of various UK police forces in our latest command and logistics shelter, and I am optimistic that significant numbers will soon be in service” he said.
