PPS Claims The Answer To Emergency Services Communications Problem

One of the weakest spots in the armoury of emergency services everywhere to date has been the absence of inter-personnel communications systems that can deliver the quality required in all of the environments that can be encountered and that can also surmount the many problems created by the user wearing PPE like face masks and suits.

Now Professional Protection Systems, who claim to preside over the largest range of emergency services equipment to be found anywhere in the world, believe that they have cracked this communications problem in the form of the Canadian Con-Space system.

The particular Con-Space unit that PPS recommend is the SR65i radio accessory, which makes the use of handheld radios easy in even the most extreme conditions, including explosive environments. The unit also moves with ease between high and low noise areas. Another plus for users of the SR65i is that it can be used with any make or model of facemask, respirator or breathing apparatus.

Two key features of the unit are a unique throat mike and a 360 degree rotational belt clip. The throat mike is so sensitive that it allows users to talk normally or whisper and still be heard whatever the noise levels in a particular environment, whilst the rotational belt clip allows the SR 65i’s large, and therefore easy to locate PPT button, to be placed for easy access, eliminating the need to hold the radio.

Water proof and dust proof the SR65i will, PPS claim, outperform all the others even in the most adverse weather conditions and most difficult of environments. To use in conjunction with the throat mike Con –Space have developed a unit simply designated Voice Amplifier, a piece of kit that can be worn comfortably and allows for clear communication between people wearing face masks or protective suits or both.

Yet a further development is Talk Box a portable intercom system designed to provide untethered two-way voice communication between casualty and rescuer or medical attendant. The design allows for both parties to communicate from 30ft or more but whilst the rescuer’s unit does not have to remain open it’s designed to monitor the casualty continuously. The latter’s unit features an alarm that can be easily activated if voice contact cannot be made with the rescuer.

Besides emergency services PPS say these units are ideal for use in the construction industry (crane operation for instance), airports, the police service and manufacturing, maintenance and mining industries to name a few.
