June 2002 - Major Czech Fire Department Buys British - PPS’s Inflatable Decon Technology
For Ostrava
Orders for inflatable decontamination showers designed and manufactured by PPS have been placed by the Ostrava Fire Department. Ostrava is the third largest city in the Czech Republic with 350,000 inhabitants and its fire department consists of 280 members divided into five teams.
The PPS DPI (decontamination portable inflatable) units have been purchased by the Ostrava fire department as part of their implementation of the Czech Republic’s terrorist incident response programme. According to Ostrava Fire Chief Vladimir Vlcek the entire team is engaged in an on-going programme of training and exercises with the PPS equipment. This is an all embracing affair which covers everything from basic operation to usage in harsh weather conditions (- 10 °C) with high winds being simulated by use of helicopter. The programme has also included night time operations and great emphasis is placed on the correct handling and containment of contaminant.
The units have been in operation during the recent flood emergency where they are reported to have performed impressively.
